Literary Studies

Our literary studies list is known for its exceptional quality and thematic breadth. Every year, we publish a large number of works in a range of media, with a focus on German literature and culture, and comparative literature from the Middle Ages to the present day. The list also addresses interdisciplinary topics such as law and literature, exile research and memory studies, and combines European and North American perspectives in both German and English-language editions. This makes our portfolio particularly attractive for international researchers.

Open Access Publishing

De Gruyter was an early champion of open access and an advocate of opening content to all researchers. We published our first open access book in 2010 and launched our first fully gold open access journal in 2013. Today De Gruyter’s open access portfolio comprises more than 2,000 open access books and around 90 fully open access journals – published in-house or on behalf of learned societies.
